JB... Ah but you see I sing a different timbre depending on the song/genre... I would sing an alanis morrisette song with a different tone of voice to how I would sing dusty springfield or janis joplin or elvis for that matter LOL

I guess for me I don't feel like I have a 'natural' voice, I decide how I want it to come out... depending on what I feel fits the song and I consciously make it come out like that. whether it be deep into the chest like the 'glory glory halelujah' bit in american trilogy, or whther it's sweet yet earthy like lisa loeb, vanessa carlton, or others of her style, or smooth and soulful like Let it Be. Either way I am consious of how my vocal chords are making the sound and changing the way my throat feels and where the power of the note is coming from. I am also very conscious of my pronunciation of words... do I try and emulate the orginal song, or do I sing it with an australian accent like Missy Higgins... I do love taking sings and singing them that way though, it's nice and relaxing and comfortable... but I feel it's limiting cos you don't get to belt out songs that way. There was that young 'lass' on idol last year who had that type of voice, so sweet, yet it was very limiting, because she couldn't get OUT of that 'box'.

I guess it would be so useful to hear yourself through other people's ears, because even though you can record yourself you still feel like you sounds like YOU and that you don't sound very good. Like looking at your own image in the mirror LOL

And yes I do spend a LOT of time practicing, singing is now my hobby I suppose, not because I want to be famous or make money out of it, but because music is a passion for me, and any way of expressing that is relaxing. (I sing when the kids have been irritating me LOL)

All that said, I doubt I will ever find ONE artist that suits me perfectly

Oh and congrats on getting an audition... I have a pretty good knowledge of music, but recent stuff... NO HOPE LOL
