From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi Samantha,
I think this happens a lot at all Karaoke Venues.
In regards to your first question I always slot the singer in as soon as possible explaining to everyone that “we have found the missing singer and we will give them their song now.
I have not had a problem doing it this way.
You are right about the smoking laws with not all people remaining inside, but you also have people going to the loo or to their cars for something and the list goes on.
It would be unfair to put them in the next round which in some cases could be an hour or two away, when all we are talking about is slotting them in and putting back a singer 5 minutes which they would have been anyway.
Your second question requires some common sense and tack.
We often have people getting up for duets and every time they are told that this counts for your song as well.
If someone has just sung and then gets up with someone again in that round they are told sorry but if you sing this song now you will not be in the next round.
Most of the time they will either say ok or sit down.
Of course a little bit of leeway has to be given when a Karaoke virgin asks for some assistance.
For those that try psuedo names they are quickly told sorry no, you have already sung and we have other people waiting in this round. They are also told not to put down false names anymore as this may lead to them to being banned from singing anymore songs. This really does work.
Hope this has helped in some small way.
Take care
Kind Regards
Kev
