I work most Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, but whenever I get a night off I usually go to one or more other Karaoke shows around Melbourne.
I do this for a number of reasons:
(1) to catch up with other hosts. Despite in a lot of cases being competition, we should all be working together to ensure karaoke can only get bigger and better.
(2) to catch up with singers. When you are hosting, you may not get a lot of time to chat with your audience, and this can be a good chance to do that. You may also do a bit of cross-promotion of your own gigs.
(3) to see what other hosts are doing. You never know what someone else is doing that might be successful and that you may use to enhance your own gigs. This works in reverse as well - someone else might be doing something that is failing miserably, so you get to see the consequences, and remind yourself not to do the same.
