From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi Everyone Been in the hosting business over 2 years now and have plenty of shows around Newcastle.Have tuned in to the forum periodically over that time and made a couple of comments that nobody replied to.
Just a few thoughts--A good show is a combination of the host, the singers, the venue and the drinkers(who don't sing-not very often anyway). We are very responsible to all to provide a good show and I believe that on the hot issue of singer rotation that it is not just an issue for the singers. We are in a fortunate position in Newcastle(in our shows anyway) to have much more audience than singers so the financial side for the venue is rarely an issue.A normal show is a max of 15 singers so 3 songs a night is normal and 4 is great-even allowing for the 1 or 2 song extra singers.I would guess that per capita Newcastle has more shows than other areas so this would have something to do with this.
The crowd doesn't want to see the same show week after week so turning up early (before the show)doesn't mean you will be first on the list-they'll still get their number of songs but mixing of singers can be as important as mixing of sound.
We communicate continually with our crowd, singers and employers so they all understand what's happening. It sounds like in alot of other areas that it is a contest for the number of singers-most shows die in this region when there is too many singers. If you are a new or regular singer you will get a song until the song list is obviously too full.
Karaoke is part of the entertainment industry so it has to be entertaining and profitable.Make good judgements and communicate with all concerned and problems will be limited.
