From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi Guys .....I have to say that I am a little in agreeance with Greg W,but it does depend on the venue and as the Venues of which I speak rely heavily on passing traffic to survive..........first in is NOT always first served.

If we already have 10 singers or so early ....We try to start our night with what we consider to be the better singers first....if we have very few singers to start .....then Rosalie may do 2 or 3 songs to set the pace for the night and more importantly to create the initial impact we believe we need to attract the initial passing crowds.....if on the other hand we already have a number of reasonable singers then Rosalie may sing the initial song (sound check) and then the rotation starts from there.

Fortunately at the RG we have very few really bad singers........ but there are 2 or 3 singers however who do sometimes arrive very early (before we have even set up)..........put their songs in.then ...sit ...wait......and watch....lol (usually having a glass of water in the meantime).unfortunately these singers to whom I refer ...are seriously bad!.......and make some of the outakes from Aust Idol look like stars.LOL.............If these people think that we are prepared to start our show at their level merely because they got there first .then they need to think again....because it wont happen!..........I believe that each person at a Karaoke night should be able contribute something of value .....be it either by spending money over the bar....or.......a good/acceptable singing voice for the entertainment of others............better still.........a good voice and also spend money over the bar lol.

For us ....what often starts with a round of 5 or 6 singers usually ends up with 50 singers or sometimes more by the middle of the night.....and by then ...no one has a clue about the rotation anyhow (or even cares) ... we do NOT put new singers at the bottom of the list but slot them appropriately and as the night progresses we sometimes change things to suit the circumstances and do what we consider to be in the best interest of our show on the night.......and an example of that is that we often get professional/Semi/bands/entertainers arrive late and would like to try some Karaoke ...we try to get them up relatively quickly as we believe they add something of value to the evening and ultimately raise the often very poor public perception of Karaoke .

I dont want to give the impression that our rotations are all over the place .because they are NOT ..however .the point I am trying to make is that nothing .on any given night .....is set in concrete.........including the rotation...interestingly those who tend to complain about the rotation on the night are invariably those who have contributed least....be it either by singing well.or spending money at the bar?
