From the Where2sing.com forum:

Gimmicks in karaoke are a must...and as I go from venue to venue I like to think there will be a gimmick which will be different and help to separate that gig from all the others...it may be the host, the prizes, few 'celebrity' locals, or how the competition is run if at all...

Kev and RV...rotations are difficult...I for one always leave it to the host to decide. I do agree that regulars should be catered for, and late arrivals be suggested to to get in early next week they go...to have a go at singing...ultimately this helps to look after the equipment from 'blow-in drunk before they come' patrons. Also encourages newbies to arrive early which ultimately helps the venue. Obviously, RV your venue is a lot different...and I like the fact you stick by your guns...and with that amount of passing traffic...who would care?....lol...In a close to high traffic area...no problem...regulars would simply need to understand the nature of your gig.

Tom...people having trouble with other patrons for a magnitude of reasons is something we all don't have much control over except to show our own displeasure of it by not showing any means of supporting those who choose to be involved...Depending on the situation, sometimes a distraction when one sees one getting heated may work, or a warning before the fight to the management and bouncers to'keep an eye out ' can always help. Anyone at a venue should always help to look after the host and the pub/club they go to, by helping to let the manager know of impending trouble, or when if trouble starts to help the host by being a witness, this may even involve helping to look after the hosts equipment or his car just outside.
