From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi everyone

Thought that I would share something that I think is quite funny with all of you, we can all use a laugh now and then. Mick and I currently have an ad in the paper as we are looking for someone to train as a panel operator. Last night I received a phone call from a man by the name of Ivan. He told me he was from WA and had not been in Sydney all that long and about all the DJ and karaoke equipment he had and that he was looking for work. I told him the job that we have available, asked if he had a suitable vehicle (let's put it this way, a person can't carry karaoke equipment on a push bike (lol....)! We cleared that part up and then he asked me what the pay was and I told him, and then he astounded me by saying that he wanted $200.00 PER HOUR!! Now I don't know if anyone from WA is reading this, but if they are can you tell me what the going rate for a karaoke panel operator is in WA? This man then proceeded to tell me that I should be setting up contracts with the different venues that Mick and I work for and I told him that I don't know of anyone here who has a written contract with any venue - (if there is anyone with a contract could you please let me know?) because from what I have been told and have found out since I have become a karaoke owner is that karaoke is virtually run on a week to week basis with clubs and pubs. Whether this was someone out to have a joke with me or not, I don't know, but I think it is hilarious that a panel operator should want to be paid $200.00 per hour. Who does he think he is - some kind of corporate executive or something??

Oh yes, we are still looking for a panel operator so if anyone knows of a person who may be interested, they can get in touch with me via David.

I hope that everyone has a good day.
