David...
Johnny Burrows here. If I understand from your previous answers and the comments section re gig info ratings, correctly, then there is an averaging out that takes place. Eg: So many give it highest ratings, an equal portion give it lowest, so the rating shown lies somewhere between the 2 extremes. Is that what is actually going on? If so, I don't really understand why. It seems superfluous to have an average rating. Why not just leave the total count it receives for each rating (spot on, not accurate, total rubbish, etc) selected and let the singers decide for themselves if it's worth visiting? Isn't that the reason for having the ratings in the first place? So, if 5 say spot on, 5 say total rubbish and 3 say not accurate that's the info that is shown. From my own perspective, if I see 6 people say spot on, 1 says pretty accurate and 1 says total rubbish, I'm more inclined to go with the majority vote and check it out. As more folk rate a gig highly, more people are inclined to visit, surely? If however, they see an average rating which is not extreme but only 'so so' then their enthusiasm or even horror is negated. If they see totals for each count, whatever emotional response that gets from them, that will influence their karaoke venue choice directly. If only 2 people are shown as having rated a gig and both say total rubbish, it doesn't matter. If 8 people rate it that way and no one has anything nice to say, then yes, that will make a difference. Far more likely is a mixture of ratings. So, I think venues would do better with totals for each score as opposed to an averaging out.
