| From the Where2sing.com forum: Hey all.
I was just searching for classified stuff looking for singers when I happened upon a competition called Australian Pub Idol. I gather karaoke tracks may be allowed but there is a pitiful amount of information at this site with regards to what is required to enter.
The Contestant's Agreement proved the deal breaker for me. Most of it was fine except for the last part where they ask for your agreement that the rights to any photos or video recordings filmed for the event are to go to them AND they will have the right to alter any or all of it for their own uses forever ('in perpetuity'). To me, that means, if they bear a grudge against you or just think it would be funny to take the video recording of you and mess with the audio by dubbing someone else's voice or even a chicken squawking for that matter, they can and you can't do a thing about it. If they want to show the recording but change your name (probably to something in order to increase hits to their site), they can do that too. That sucks as far as I'm concerned, so no way am I entering. Prize money isn't exactly terrific either. $150 for winning a heat is alright but a measly $500 if you win when they have all those sponsors? No way is that worth risking their tampering with recordings or photos of me so count me out. (I know, 'what's the big deal? You're not famous, Johnny.' Right? Well, true; I'm not - but I wish to be! So, I'd rather not make it big and then have some yo yo release footage to which I have signed away my rights to and use it in a smear campaign against me whether for kicks or anything else).
Anyone else thinking of entering it? (Just Google the comp title, I'm sure that will bring up the official site or at least other sites with links to it).
