| From the Where2sing.com forum: Just on the comments re: the Asian karaoke scene.We went to Asia last year and had a sample of karaoke in Thailand,Singapore and on the cruise ship 'Gemini'.In Bangkok we sang to each other in the open room for an an hour or so before we decided that the markets were a better bet.If there were more people in hiding we didn't see their faces .The room was fantastic with more speakers and screens than I've seen.In Singapore we were treated like lepers.I sang a song and while waiting a couple of hours for Sue's turn and listening to the 'local hero' sing 4 in a row I discovered that their rotation depended on how many people were at the table i.e. our 2 person table entitled us to sing 1 song between us for the 'WHOLE NIGHT'!!!When the host decided to have a 20 minute break without any songs,needless to say I tracked her down outside and persuaded her that Sue would like to sing her song.She did and we left to the comfort of our hotel room.After a couple of days of sipping $10.00 beers a detour to to ABC store to buy more affordable cans was a highlight.
The ship was something else--the lovely Asian host let us take over the system and for 7 nights we entertained most of the Poms,Kiwis and Aussies on the ship.She happily supplied the many Asians in the private 'torture chambers' with an endless stream of grog and munchies.Actually the rooms were luxury and some of the young Aussies eventually hired them but it was not karaoke that they had in mind.The hostess had never seen so many people sing in public and we actually in the end had some of the Asians sing inthe open room for their first time.
All in all we had a great time and one of the things I picked up was the rooms are mostly surround sound which I now like to mirror at some of my venues. Don't expect to sing Cold Chisel or much upbeat at all but if you want to sing to your loved one there's tons of choice.
