JB,
The perception of greed for comp chasers is only perceived as greed because those others wish they were getting the winnings though. That is what 'perception' of greed is about. If they are good enough to win the competitions then it is not greedy. Greed is about being offered something and taking more, when others who are as deserving do not get the same amount. For those of you who are rugby league or AFL folllowers, is it greedy for Brisbane to try to win the NRL premiership again this year or the West Coast Eagles the AFL premiership again? Or greedy of the runner who goes in fun runs to train and also win to possibly get prizemoney as well?

Your gripe is a bit different I spose. I still think that there are so called comp chasers out there just trying to sing in front of people and they do like singing a wide variety of songs. You don't want to get into the habit of tarnishing everyone with the same brush which seems to happen on this site quite a fair bit, and which you do as well by implying 'most hard core chasers are undeserving'. Obviously they must be ok because they are winning. And let me also point out that it is only the comp chasers that win that get perceived negatively. There are many people who go to all the competitions and never win yet they are not seen in a negative light!

And when it comes down to it, anyone has the right to do the same song or performance at a different competition. There is no rule against it. And on this point, I must stick up for Robin Williams as well ... maybe you have grown tired of his gags but I, and I am sure many others, love him for the same gags that he 'may' continue to give. But that is the point. He may be listening to the public ... comp chasers may also be listening to the public and doing what they know will entertain and may also give them the best chance of winning a comp. But again we must not wipe all with the same brush, as I know of 'comp chasers' who have a wide repertoire and put effort into every performance.

I say again that once you put money up for a competition or performance that it becomes a professional event and so shouod be run accordingly. It should be unbiased and open for the best competitor regardless of where that person comes from. After all that only means we have something to aspire to the next time to beat that competitor. Means we all improve!! Do we not allow Justin Gatlin into the 100 metre final for next year's Olympics after he won the Athens 100 metres? From my point of view there has to be a better look at how the competitions are run so that the biases are not so apparent. Karaoke is subjective yes, but there is so much politics and biases in these competitions that is so easy to see! That needs more focus than so called 'comp chasers'; that is what influences patrons to go to venues or not - bad press is good for 20 others whereas good press is only worth 2 or 3
