| From the Where2sing.com forum: Common guys, Competitions are one thing but raising the bar for normal karaoke, public perceptions, being drunk and getting up and being dreadful, Bah Humbug, so what.
I can understand that competitions should be of a high standard and that’s why we ran open Comps so that everyone was able to compete and yes they were successful.
The Judges we used in the semi and grand final ranged from professional musicians and singing teachers to a talent agency.
Now as I said I don’t have a problem with raising standards during competitions but I love a mixture of the good to the not so good at normal Karaoke.
Too many people have and do loose sight of the fact that it’s Karaoke and supposed to be fun.
When we get to serious about Karaoke we then hear the snide remarks (and yes we have all heard them at some stage) “they shouldn’t be singing there awful”, “they have wasted time for a good singer to sing”, “I’m better than them, they should have given me another song” etc, etc.
As I’ve said on here time and time again, if we want just professional singers at Karaoke then change the name to a Cabaret Show and pay people to perform and entertain.
