| From the Where2sing.com forum: Thanks Bojo, Kev & JB - Thanks for the input, not unlike yourself and others I have 5 gigs three of which have been going for a while and the start up for those as you say is well read by myself with my repertoire however as with last nights new venue and late start due to the Eagles 'GAME' we hosts don't get the opportunity to 'read' the crowd, it was a fair mix of ages and with the 'LOSS' added more of a challenge so I threw Noelene (my wife ) in with 'Get This Party Started' which seemed to do the trick and followed up by 'Rocka Billy Rebel' (for the oldies) broke the ice!
I asked this question for two reasons, firstly, regardless of a hosts experience I would like the forumers to know that I believe we are challenged with our work and the way our clients perceive it is very important, I know we all strive to make our shows work at all venues not only from equipment upgrading and servicing but also to the perplexing challenge of entertainment and communicating with all audiences and secondly I am truly interested in what song/s guarantee to start everyones night off with a lift e.g. For myself it never fails if a host or singer gets into Dire Straits 'Sultans of Swing' @ the beginning or early stages of the show just something about it makes the mood for a great night regardless of how I feel! How about you?
