Lyn...
Disappointed :(

Story time!
Could hardly believe it but tonight, I was recognised yet AGAIN for the Today Tonight story of 2004. This guy who apparently had seen me once before at my fave karaoke haunt too, came up to introduce himself and ask me if it was me he had seen on the program and even remembered what I had said in my few seconds of screen time. Blew me away!
He bought me a drink and introduced me to his girlfriend and she confirmed that he had indeed just been telling her in recent weeks about me. That was a buzz.
In appreciation, I showed them a bit of magic at their table. Turned out the girlfriend arranges corporate gigs and was interested in hiring me to do one - she didn't hear me sing, she meant for MAGIC! LOL. Whilst I did blow them both away with the several illusions I showed, I declined on that offer as I'm only new to the field and only do it for fun at this stage but gave her my website address to check out my music. Always good to have professional contacts.
Karaoke is so great for networking, I've found. All but one of my decent contacts have been met through karaoke: the girl I wound up singing backing vocals for in her band and through her a guy (now a friend) whose brother is Australian general manager for Rajon Music; I also met a fellow who played bass in a band that was the support act for one of Def Leppard's Aussie tours in the 80s and is now a DJ who caters to the B&D/S&M crowds in Sydney. Another few guys I know work behind the scenes for reputable Channel 9 programs. David himself obviously! Through him, I got alerted to Today Tonight's filming a night at a popular Sydney karaoke venue back in '04 and when the reporter (Paul Makin) realized he had seen me that night and actually liked me, when my name cropped up later on, he was quick to contact David in order to contact me again, so had that not happened, I may not have been on telly at all in that story.
I'm still bummed that I lost the number of one guy who was an independent filmmaker who was willing to shoot video clips of me for free or have me star in his films (again for free) and who had a stunningly gorgeous sister who was happy to perform for film clips too. That was before I had won enough comps to purchase all my recording gear or else I would have taken him up on the offer straight away. Can't now anyway. Dagnabbit!
Has anyone else here managed to make useful contacts (for anything) through karaoke?
