I have found that promotional advertising throughout the venue is one of the best ways of attracting singers to the venue. The two venues that my shows are currently at both have extensive advertising throughout the venues, both have it at the front door and with the one that I currently have at Blacktown, seeing there is a talent contest on there at present, then there is advertising in the local paper. 'Word of mouth' advertising can sometimes be good, but it can go against a venue also, particularly if there is someone who does not like the venue/karaoke show and decides to bad mouth it in some way.
Venue advertising works for me and for the venues that I have, however it may not work for everyone. When starting at a new venue I talk to the Entertainment Manager and ask about the kind of advertising that will be displayed. I have done all of the advertising posters myself for the Blacktown venue, however with the gig at the Band Club, the club itself has paid out to have advertising posters made and displayed throughout the club.
