Kev...
Ah... Much as I'd love Magic-a-oke, at this stage what I perform is 'close up magic' the kind done right in front of you as opposed to the big stage illusions - which I would LOVE to do but don't have the budget for. That stuff's expensive! There is a stage illusionist who expressed interest in meeting with me to see about putting a show together using me as a musical part of his very professionally run variety show. I'm still considering that for the moment but don't feel I have enough original songs that would be in keeping with his style of magic. Oops. Going off topic again. Bad Johnny! *slaps wrist*
Guitaraoke.... Tempting! Tempting! Probably best if I just sit back and enjoy the performances of the proper guitarists in attendance. I'll take note of the chords on screen though so as to know if I need bother attempting guitaraoke in future or if the types of chords are too exotic for me to play live at this point.
I've got too many passions dammit! How's a fella supposed to fit all these interests into one lifetime? Argh!!

Hi again Lyn...
I just realized the conclusion of my post to you may have come across a little unfriendly in tone but it wasn't meant to be. Like Guest, you seem a nice person too with a realistic outlook. Were you the young lady sitting with some guy friends underneath the poster for the karaoke (off to the side, behind the singers)?
Thanks for the compliments on the dancing.
I know you were trying to be constructive with your criticism which is something I really appreciate. Thank you for that too. It did not fall on deaf ears, merely the ears of someone who knows the difference between a good night's performance and a mediocre one. If I were simply deluded / unrealistic and egotistical would I have thought Kieran deserved to win and not even rank myself in the top 3 on Wednesday night? ;)
Regarding Wednesday's outcome, I would have reversed 1st and 3rd order for the placings that night. I was not amused when the winner merely repeated one of her songs instead of doing something new. How lame is that? Girl who sang Simply The Best and our mutual friend knew of her. They raved to me in advance of (and during) her performances but I felt she didn't really connect with the audience too well and came across as a bit false. That's quite common amongst entertainers whether at karaoke or in other professional entertainment circles. I thought Kieran struggled with connection too but he just let his singing do the work and as you quite rightly said, he was consistently the better performer that night both technically and style wise, so good on him and I really do believe he should have won.
If I had actually cared about winning, I would have paid closer attention to each of the singers to give a more informed critique of all who competed but as I didn't, I can't. However, there was a young and very attractive blonde girl wearing a black scarf, form fitting grey dress / top over tight black pants (don't recall the shoes sorry) who unless I am confusing her with 2nd place getter, sang Fergie's 'Big Girls Don't Cry' who I really liked but was under the impression she was a social singer because I don't recall her singing a song in the first round. I was surprised when she was on stage with the rest of us contestants as the winners were being announced and figured she must have got confused thinking she was up for a prize. OMG! That wasn't you, was it? If it was, I apologise if I missed your first song. There were several physically attractive girls in attendance that night (even one of the judges who wound up leaving early) so I really can't identify you without some indication of where in the venue you were positioned. Bad Lyn! You should have introduced yourself!
I intend to visit The Steyne at some point since I know Joss the host (from his North Sydney gig at the Rag 'n' Famish) and I liked that the venue seems consistently packed and actually has a stage (if a little small). I'll post here when I do intend to go. If you'd like to come that night, introduce yourself. I may possibly even change your mind about me as a performer ;) Now that I have made the commitment here to achieve at least one BIG break within the year, I shall be Upping my game a bit and more likely going out to impress rather than JUST have FUN. I'll still be having fun but I now have something to prove, so I won't be quite so blase with my song choices from here on in.
Lyn, you give me the sense that along with a tender side, you have youthful optimism which is a very attractive quality to have. It would be a pleasure to get to know you better.
