| From the Where2sing.com forum: Lex, Wasn't karaoke at one time about singing? If we don't get to sing, is it really karaoke? .. or has it evolved into something else? I have plenty of alternatives & can even record music at home. But karaoke used to be a social evening and one where we got to sing with our friends. Even our rough venues hadn't driven us out, but the combo of rudeness, violence, and mind-numbingly loud, bad, repeititive music finally was all too much. It was an insult to invite friends. Some venues, thankfully, are still like the old days. But the rest - forget it. They deserve karaoke's generally rotten reputation and do a lot to uphold it.
