Just regarding the mention of pitch measuring devices at karaoke not being in use, I know they were in fact in use throughout Asia some 10 years ago. I cannot attest to the accuracy of them though. I think it a novel idea. Perhaps they should be used at karaoke on request by the singer. It would prove too embarrassing for most I am sure to risk their score being made known but to anyone wishing to test themselves and willing to risk a possible ego bruising, it could prove very ueful. I doubt it will encourage too many more higher calibre singers along though with thoughts of proving something to themselves or others as most are happy sitting on their laurels I've found, rather than actively trying to improve.
Anyway, I'd welcome such testing at karaoke of my own voice cos pitch is something I have struggled with since trying to repair the damage caused through improper training and sometimes, I still can't quite hear for myself if I am on pitch or not for the occasional note. Occasional criticism is useful but sometimes I doubt the accuracy of the listener's hearing so receiving a machine's impartial judgement rather intrigues me.
