Hi GregW...
Like I said, no disrespect was meant. My comment was aimed at the KJs not only in on this discussion but whom throughout this past year seem to be saying that adjusting volume is sooooooo difficult at karaoke when to my thinking, it is not.
I can't speak to Tom's volume preferences but I have my own and I have been to many a gig where the sound is just too damn loud. I've also been to the odd one where it was too quiet! Of the 'just right' mix crowd, few seem to have consistency throughout an evening. Some songs will be cranked, others will be muted. That was why I threw in the tip about maximum volume threshold to the KJ's ears. I don't mean like obvious songs either. I mean like a hard rock song will be soft whereas a golden oldie ballad will be deafening by comparison (and both songs suffer for it). Weird! Fair enough if the KJ doesn't know the song but surely after a few seconds to the first minute, one can get an idea of how the volume should be adjusted? Yet, no adjustment gets made and the quality of the song and show overall drops.
I salute your male / female microphone innovation! I have not heard of that being done before. It might actually solve mixing woes a little more too for when the high voiced male comes on stage, he could use the female mic and the low voiced female could use the male mic. Excellent stuff!
