I don't speak for the organisers of the competition, but the rules did say that you had to be a holder of an Australian passport; the fact was also extensively mentioned on W2S, so you shouldn't have even entered the heats and taken the place of another singer who would have qualified. The reasons are simple: This is an international competition, so how could someone who is not an Australian be allowed to represent Australia? It's also being run in NZ, so why would you be eligible in two countries? Besides which, the rule is set by the international body rather than each country's organisers. Happily there's a simple solution: Citizenship is easy, and if you get started now, you should be just in time for the 2006 Karaoke World Championship heats. You qualify for Australian Citizenship if you've held Permanent (not Temporary) Residency for 2 years out of the last 5 years, including at least 12 months in the last 2 years immediately prior to the date of your Citizenship application. (Note that holding a Temporary or Permanent Resident visa is not the same as being a citizen and holding an Australian passport). Be aware that the process is simple, inexpensive, but full of delays - apply online and wait a month for a response, wait another month for your interview, wait two more for the decision, wait 3 more for your ceremony after which you can apply for a passport. So get started right now if you're serious about being a part of the Karaoke World Championships 2006 in Australia. Your application for Australian Citizenship can be made online with a payment of $120 at http://www.citizenship.gov.au
