From the Where2sing.com forum:

JB and MA re getting people to come to karaoke. That has been one of my main themes. So often it has been an embarrassment. Tonight we are bringing a friend. She is an accomplished singer & radio host. I know Garry & Di will make her welcome and it will be a good night. I wish I could have said that about so many others. Last week was the pits. I forgot to mention that in addition to the disrobing, frottage and other indignities some patron had scratched my name off the do-it-yourself song list. No wonder my friends sat there for ages wondering when my turn was coming. The host quickly rectified this, but it makes a mockery of the 'sing your heart out' rhetoric when you don't even get your fair turn. One other indignity that I can confidently predict will not occur tonight. At biased venues they can't help but stick in an ageist insult with 'Tom's going to do an oldie'. It wouldn't matter what song I chose. They've even referred to Pink as an oldie, but only if I sang it. In other words, its a personal slur. I have never heard Garry or Di insult a guest (except a few friends who like being ribbed) and I know they will not make oblique reference to our friend being older than Marg & I. As to those points that I posted about improving venues, the biased venues violate every single one. That's how I came up with the list - personal bad experiences. Tonight I could do a tick box of how to do it right. That's why they're #1.
