From the Where2sing.com forum:

I should add about the Mixed, Head and Whistle Voices that even though there is tension felt, it is a manageable one and NOT one that causes you to go red in the face with veins popping out from the neck to the temples. Top level singers are able to keep as relaxed singing as when speaking. I find it difficult usually to keep that relaxed but sometimes I'll get it and it is an exhilarating feeling. You find yourself hitting notes you thought beyond you (WELL) and as you said, harpoet, you think, 'Where did THAT come from?!?' It's great and encourages you to try harder and go further. When another time you try but can't get it, it is equally frustrating so it takes a lot of focus to not give up - especially if you happen to get negative feedback or just observe that you lose your audience on the trouble spots of a song - especially when you are so looking forward to showing off your new vocal skills! ARGH!!! It really sucks when that happens! However, as Aaliyah sang, 'If at first you don't succeed, you just dust yourself off and try again.' So, keep those spirits up!
To anyone who finds me somehow deluded or just into denial, I say, no, I just don't believe in giving up at the point that you do. Odds are made to be defeated. Limits are meant to be extended. Lives are meant to be LIVED! Sometimes it's hard but other times are fan-flipping-tastic which are the times that keep me going! Sometimes the only difference between success and failure can be that knife edge decision to quit or push yourself that extra teensy bit. Either way, it's a learning experience and the more you learn, the better equipped to meet challenges you become.
