No correction necessary my friend. We are both right. Swing is actually Swing Jazz just as Blues is Blues Jazz and Big Band is Big Band Jazz. That's one thing I remember from my music classes in high school.
Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Rock 'n' Roll - it's all Rock music.
Hillbilly, Country & Western, Rock Country - all Country music and I too have heard that Country Music is the most popular form of music in the western world. I wonder if perhaps that statistic came from America - home to such global concepts as 'The World Series' and Boxing champions named 'Heavyweight Champion of the World' and New York, the greatest city in 'the World' where the events of 9/11 - in particular, the Twin Towers attack was apparently the worst tragedy 'the World' had ever seen (I'm sure the Japanese feel very differently given 2 of their entire cities got levelled at the end of WW2, the effects of which are still measurable today in terms of radiation poisoning and the very culture of the country itself). It is the USA that Country Music is so predominant, so I suspect, it is just insular US thinking which just spills over through the power of media to the rest of the West (which in turn considers itself 'The World.' I'm sure David must laugh at such concepts while residing in China - a country home to more millionaires than Australia has people).
Back to labelling of music styles though:- Pop Music is a tricky one for me to fathom as it is just a shortened version of 'Popular Music' and 'popular' music changes all the time, so really it covers all styles. I mean, Mozart was once Pop Music by that definition but I doubt it would be considered such today! LOL
