Interesting boiling point today regarding singers apologising to KJs for going to another show.
Heck! I'VE been that singer many times. It does feel like one is being disloyal if you love their show but still go off to find another or are at the same time loyal to another KJ and feel compelled to allot each time in your karaoke schedule. That's my stance anyway.
Fair enough to support karaoke in general but I can't help feeling responsible in part for a show's demise if I frequent it but just not regularly enough to add another patron to the venue's gig security list - i.e. another 'regular' customer providing the cash to justify the karaoke in the first place. Not every gig pulls in the crowd it deserves and dies a quick death. One long running gig in Sydney actually attracts far more than its fair share of customers in my opinion and I am still astounded it continues to thrive years into its lifespan despite it being a well hated venue in karaoke circles. The difference? Bums on seats. So, when I apologise to a KJ for not turning up, I don't do so because I consider myself some kind of draw card or something but merely like another signature on a petition to keep the karaoke going. The difference is, the petition list changes from week to week (or fortnightly or monthly in some cases) so that sometimes my signature is there and sometimes it is not and the weeks it is not, I worry that maybe it will be the one signature that had the power to save the gig but due to its absence, the gig got canned. You know? The 'if only I had gone more often, then maybe the gig would still be running,' feeling. Strange but true :-S
