I am actually quite offended that you would portray me as a Bobby Darin impersonator who didn't try new things. Indeed, it's just because of such misinterpretations that I was angry enough to write such posts. The biggest insult was when I got up to do Pink (who is still in the charts) and all I got from the KJ was 'Tom's going to do an oldie'. This is ageist stereotyping at its worst.
Imagine the uproar if we carried these attitudes over to race. It might be OK to insult me as a white American but would I dare ever say 'Oh, so & so's going to do a white man's song'? Hardly. So why is it OK to apply ageist stereotypes, which are equally illegal?
