Johnny B... I agree entirely abotu getting outside one's comfort zone to try different songs... songs that push the top and bottom of your register and your ability to get 'around' fast bits (melodically or lyrically) or keep it going strong through long power notes is how we grow vocally. (I have 'My heart will go on, and I will always love you in my pactice list just to keep me on my toes)

I also think it's good to sometimes do a sng PURELY for fun, because you know it's a cheesy song, but it's FUN, and yeah you might make a pigs ear of it, but you gotta do something unexpected from time to time, otherwise it just gets boring. Last weekend I got five songs at one place and I had been playing around with Britney's 'oops I did it again' (totally not my style vocally) but I thought, what the hey I might as well give it a shot... it was pretty woeful in terms of tone and vocal styling, but the crowd seemed to enjoy it, and I think I nailed the other FOUR songs, so who cares if ONE song wasn't quite up to scratch??

I am always looking for new songs to try... at present I have about 200 songs I have run through and hope to do some time, I like thinking outside the square for new songs too... playing with keys and taking stuff up an octave if need be. I don't lie to be pgeonholed as having to do certain type of song... I look mousy therefore I have to do vanessa carlton, lisa loeb, sixpence none the richer, jewel etc BOLLOCKS to that!!!

As someone famous once said... 'Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.'
