| From the Where2sing.com forum: You know guys, sometimes I have to wonder how this kind of talk compares to the Telstra/Optus grumblings no doubt going on when the likes of OneTel, Dodo and all the other fly-by-nighters came along. There are some that crash and burn, but then (in terms of ISPs) there are others that have built a really good business model on simply offering 'more' and 'better' at a cheaper cost. The likes of Netspace, Internode, Westnet and my own ISP, iiNet, all significantly undercut the 'big boys' and as consumers, we all applaud them for bringing competition to the market and providing low cost options. Why is it then, that when we are the ones losing the business, we switch to 'damn those bastards, they're all dodgy, they can go to hell'?
Business is business and as other hosts have said on here on previous occassions, it's the operators that don't run their gigs like a business that don't survive. Survival of the fittest, not 'fun'nest I believe is the term. We can all moan and bitch and whine, but it's not going to provide solutions, it'll just provide sympathy to the guy who just lost his gig.
Know what you offer and compete with other operators on that point. You may not be the cheapest, but if you think what you have is better value, then you need to convince your potential client of that. If you repeatedly fail to do so, then either your sales skills need some work or you need to change your business model...
