From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi David - My question in last paragraph of post in question was refering to 'no regulating bodies' within the karaoke industry, that is refering to standards, ethics and lawful business practices and the formation of such an 'association' of like minded operators nationally, although membership of any trade/discipline related body can be an effective marketing tool it also supplies employers a resume of assurances towards operators ethics.
As I have unwavering respect for W2S and it's supporters I believe it provides a vehicle to initiate such an affiliation... no need to duck for cover ...lol
GregW - I appreciate your comments and likewise you reiterated my initial feelings and are spot on regarding getting too hung up on Top 10, recently I surveyed singers @ a fairly large gig of mine (having been perplexed due to lack of W2S input from them) of the 37 singers there that night - 6 had a computer & 2 had the internet connected!!!!!!
Sideline Observer - I am trusting your friends have great faith in you sharing their financial affairs, however I too began this business as hobby because I enjoyed, no loved it in a very special way, that enjoyment was enhanced due to the fact I had a very real job that afforded me the right to buy the best equipment and songbook possible, today that 'mere enjoyment' as you put it is a full time business and 'MONEY' is the nescessity believe me or better still give it a go!
To All - Regarding Hobby Hosts and hosts in general - let me share something with you all - once a upon a time in WA there were a lot of Taxi drivers especially in the country areas, these guys were queing up for nightshifts, weekend work etc etc and making not bad money, some were doing it to supplement income whilst some were doing it as their main income working 7 days a week and yes there was others doing it for other reasons!
It seemed it wasn't a bad little earner and cash was the name of the game for some however when regulating bodies stepped in to investigate and reported to the nescessary Gov. Depts. there was a huge exodus from taxi driving... I wonder WHY?
My point ,when the lid blew off this, all legimate operators were under scrutiny too they had to go through the inconvenience and suspicion and lets not forget the companies that did the employing and the costs incurred to them, was it such 'a little earner' then???
I have no problem opening up the floodgates of good honest competition, it is healthy however if you are gonna be in it make sure you cross those T's and dot those I's if you don't the costs are much greater than the 'fun time' you may think your having - believe me - TRUE STORY!
