From the Where2sing.com forum:

Greg, your interpretation doesn't at all fit what I said. It sounds like the all-too-common knee jerk ageist trap we get on this site. I did NOT say that I was looking for a 'low key' gig (ie- implication I am some old fart who wants to sing Danny Boy all night). Rather, we wanted a gig where we would be allowed to sing - not left sitting at the bar with our songslips ignored.

As to noise, I NEVER refer to loud song styles. I was referring to an idiot nearly deafening my wife by assaulting her with the speaker box. I like doing heavy metal as much as the next guy. What I object to is overall volumes completely overpowering the room acoustics - in other words, sound well exceeding legal OH & S levels.

This ageist trap will be the death of karaoke. Everyone who raises an issue of noise or violence gets labelled, even if subconsciously, an old fart. If you alienate and lose all your old farts just watch the musical quality of your evenings deteriorate.
