David - This weeks newsletter and your comments re midi files and the the 'inbuilt' orchestra for performers took me back to a debate I was having with my then brother in law in the early seventies, I remember my disgust when he asserted the need for musical instrument backing would be made obsolete in the future due to the introduction of the Synthesisor technology although we were enjoying such things as 'Tubular Bells' - 'Popcorn' and The Beatles, Moody Blues etc were entertaining us all with the same electronic applications I was in total disbelief that any form of 'synthetic' music would have any sort of long term effect on music performance!

How wrong was I!!!

Today the applications available can make anyone a star from the comforts of their home to the public stage, we can now in most cases attend a live concert, close our eyes and be almost transported to our living rooms with CD quality sound reproduction of performances, a couple of years back I attended that 'Beatles' commemorative 1964 Aust Visit Concert that was doing the rounds the 'impersonator' group was using the original equipment of the day, how raw was that sound and to think the originals were playing to thousands of screaming fans in '64 however the comparison in our case the year 2004 a more subdued 'baby boomers' audience was straining to hear the archaic strains coming off the stage, did this mean we have been spoilt by 21st Century technology in sound reproduction or was it simply an 'AGE' thing he he lol!
