Welcome New Kid!
Gig guide's the place to find shows. While you'll find comments left by singers, the only way you can be sure of the quality of any show is to go and check it out for yourself. As an old karaoke hand, I say don't be afraid to venture far and wide to get some singing in. My favourite gigs are miles apart and none very close to home but I'll still head to them because they are so great in my opinion.

Mic Rophone...
Thanks for the drink at the Brewhouse! I hadn't been on the site so it was a nice surprise :)
How kind of you to introduce me to the great EC too! That was fun interacting with them.
How freaky that you should know my high school friend Nicole.
My thanks to you for running such a high energy, fun filled show that relaxed Fast Jimmy enough to actually give singing a whirl. He was technically not a karaoke virgin as he has been in a comp mentioned several posts ago which he felt he only won cos he produced a live dove at the end of his song. However, after hearing him at Lalor Park Saturday night, I think he was being far too hard on himself. I even played back the footage from my camera for him but he still reckons he was awful. He's worse confidence wise than I used to be - and that's saying something believe it or not!

Lex...
Vampiric magician? LOL
Magic gig was TOUGH!!! Corporate function at Blacktown RSL in the auditorium. The room was done up great (I wonder if that's where the karaoke takes place?). Anyway, while some folk enjoyed it immensely, there were others who were just downright rude to the performers who visited their tables. Some idiot threw bread rolls at the mime / juggler while juggling. Fast Jimmy ranked it in his top 10 toughest gigs. So apparently, if I can work a gig like that, I can work anywhere.
Stand up comedian wasn't my cup of tea. I'd checked him out at YouTube already that day and during his sets, I decided to just chill in the dressing room with Jim and the mime / juggler who made the gig so much more enjoyable with his hilarious, laid back attitude. Has a lot of heart too and does a lot of work at hospitals as a clown doctor for the kids in intensive care. Great guy to spend time talking with.
The DJ was great. He played a lot of the fringe stuff from the 50s and 60s that I love - even a few I've sung at karaoke.
The dressing room wasn't great. Basically a ladies' bathroom with carpet - and they served us food in there! Geez! Reminds me of that Frasier episode: 'Food.....in the bathroom?'
So while the magic gig was good money it was, surprisingly, worth EVERY dollar!
I continued some magic at the Brewhouse afterwards as there was a lovely birthday girl there with her equally lovely sisters. EYE CANDY to the max that night!!! Mmmm....... There's something fantastic about such EC responding to magic tricks with cries of excitement, huge embraces, sloppy kisses and expressions of gratitude. Hehehe
I know what you mean about asking for lifts to karaoke. I usually can't bring myself to do so either unless the driver is passing by my place anyway in which case it is not so inconvenient for them. When people offer though, I'll accept, albeit begrudgingly.
I suggest catching a cab if the place isn't that far away. Considering fuel prices currently along with insurance and on road costs, it's cheaper to do so than driving yourself - plus you get to drink while helping to support the show's longevity.
