Could You Be Scotland's Karaoke Champion?
By Sunday Mail (UK)

favourite Leon Jackson claims karaoke made him a star.

And now all you other frustrated singers can step up to the mic and share his success.

We've launched a nationwide search for Scotland's Karaoke Champ with a brilliant new website - www.karaokechamp.co.uk

The whole country is set to go karaoke crazy as wannabe warblers bid to win our crown. Simply upload videos of your best performances - completely FREE - and you can be in with a chance of winning the star prize of ?000.

If you sing it, you could win it! You don't have to be Robbie Williams or Kylie Minogue.

Even if you and your mate sound more like Chas and Dave than Simon and Garfunkel, you are still in with a shout.

We want the most entertaining performer, not the best singer.

Karaokechamp was officially launched last week with a massive sing-song at Glasgow's Curry Karaoke Club.

Star turns included our own Elaine C. Smith doing Anastacia's Not That Kind.

One of the first behind the mic was Clyde 1 DJ Suzie McGuire, 34, who belted out a brilliant Blanket On The Ground.

Suzie said: 'I love to sing country and western songs. I can't resist a bit of Tammy Wynette or Dolly Parton but I'm practising Amy Winehouse's Rehab.

'It's brilliant to get up and give it laldy. The more rubbish you are, the funnier it is.'

Curry Club owner Chan Bains added: 'It doesn't matter if you're not a great singer.

'Do a bit of dancing, get the crowd involved, maybe even dress up.

'I like to sing I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt while dressed as Ali G.'

Mum and daughter duo Maureen Fim, 57, and Naomi Gorman, 31, were among the first wannabes to upload a performance.

They are star turns at Aberdeen's Charlotte bar singing Abba's Fernando.

Housewife Naomi, a mum-of-three, said: 'I've sung since I was a teenager.

'I don't have the confidence to be a pop star but I've always been told I have the voice.'

Maureen added: 'So far we have won a holiday to Tenerife and champagne.

'We're known as the Von Trapp family - it always gives us a laugh.' Another early addition to the site is shop manager Mark Burwell, 34, from Penicuik, Midlothian.

He said: 'Karaoke is a perfect night out - you have such a laugh.

'I love it so much I've set up my own business called Rockstar Karaoke and do gigs in hard rock and heavy metal venues.'

In January, a judging panel will choose finalists from the site to take part in a grand sing-off - with the winner scooping ?000.

So go on...if you don't sing it, you can't win it.
