From the Where2sing.com forum:

Last night we had something so often lacking in karaoke - listeners! -ie- there were some non-singing people who sat at another table and bought drinks. They listened and applauded. We even had an intercity traveller who came along strictly for recreation. It seemed almost surreal - karaoke as it should be.

But I was brought back to reality when I heard a report about a North Syd Saturday venue we had thought to be one of the better ones. I appears to have been infected by the karaoke hoon syndrome -ie-- people taking their clothes off (in this case a completely nude male), a stoned guy who danced the whole night whether music was playing or not, and guys monstering and threatening singers in the men's room. Alas.

This sort of thing makes a mockery of the positive comments we so often see on W2S main page. How can you have an enjoyable evening when you're being threatened? Who cares what songs you sing when no one is brain-alive enough to listen to you anyway? And hooning seems to get a lot of support from some of the W2S posters who see this as part of being cool and young. NSW police don't see it that way and violence has been getting a lot of press attention lately.

Well, give me a night like last night any time - decent singers, heaps of variety, friendly atmosphere. This is all despite a club that makes every effort to undermine its karaoke with TV, raffles and any sports excuse to cancel the gig.
