| From the Where2sing.com forum: Yes - Tom - the pics tell the story of this venue, however horses for courses, as with my gigs each one is different and there are certainly some that may be classed by some as a 'Menzies' however in my book there is no excuse for an operator to mess with rotations or be part of anti social behaviours!
I am somewhat perplexed by your comment re 'those types need 10,000 songs in the hope.....' I believe most ardent Karaokeers enjoy the opportunity between songs to peruse a substantially presented songbook offering all genres from all decades e.g. the Elvis fan (although they may have 2 pet songs) will and does relish the opportunity to select songs from the complete MM Velvet Elvis collection in my book or so they tell me and the expenditure and time put into it is rewarded when a pair of 'old timer' Karaoke Virgins select and sing for the first time 'Bing and Grace's' True Love just because it was in the book!
Songbooks are a thorn in the side for most operators, the high maintenance factor after consumer abuse is constant and the never ending upgrading a nescessity however I have been to some very succesful long standing shows with 1200 songs and they seem to survive, unfortunately this type of show would not keep me coming back on a regular basis (repeated pet songs) and would frustrate me no end if I have to bring my own song selections each time just to enjoy the sound they produce and lets face it by doing this I am giving that operator a FREE RIDE at my expense!
I have opted to cater for all my venues. If I am to respect my venues and its patrons I must supply a complete product, this must be reflected in song selections and when I do have theme nights I know as do the punters, the theme era will be generously covered in the book!
