From the Where2sing.com forum:

Barri Tone - Thanks for the comments, yes I am like yourself and must have a substantial song list, I mean with reference to the 1200 song list @ Noosa in January (a great host great crowd great sound) but I could not find any of my 'pet songs' (much more than two) so had to be happy with 'Love Is In The Air' and 'Little Ray Of Sunshine' for the four nights as my request for 'Quando Quando Quando' etc etc (now these weren't rare requests) was not available!

Tom - How does a Host's reference to an 'oldie' song or 'golden oldie' that we are about to sing, automatically put the singer in the 'Old Fogey' category or how can it suggest that the host is being disrespectful, seems we hosts have a lot of eggshells to dodge if this is the perception and attitude of Karaoke singers. I doubt very much that singers are this sensitive!
I truly believe Hosts can be educational as well as entertaining, I mean a short intro to the song and original singer (regardless of era) is informative and as you so rightly stated in past post about 50's 60's theme night confusion it introduces some musical history e.g. 'Let's welcome Tom to the stage He has chosen a Classic Elvis # - reputed to be the last song Elvis sang @ Gracelands before dying - Thanks for choosing this great oldie Tom - Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain!' Cheers clapping - Is there a problem here? Or better still the singer could add a brief intro before singing that oldie Ay!
Hey Tom get off the Anti-Yank bandwagon I arrived here in 1964 when Poms were true Bastards and the Yanks were the Saviours of Oz and then later when we were labelled Commie Bastards because we belonged to a Union it goes on and on and not to mention my deep love for a certain French lady that disintegrated rapidly when her Father found out I was English and if I was to include Irish Scottish and Welsh that had issues with this little POM and to think it was peace time!!!!!!
