| From the Where2sing.com forum: I've always thought that the host had a great deal to do with the quality of the show, the atmosphere and the general enjoyment of the evening. Sure there are other factors, but by and large, a good host can turn around a bad night and bad host can turn around a good night.
I went to a gig on Thursday and I have to say, I feel a lot of sympathy for the hand that this host has been dealt. Almost without exception, every singer was shocking and every song they chose was boring. Now, yes, enjoyment is in the eye of the beholder, but I do feel that this night bordered on the empirical.
If as a singer, you go to a show where the crowd is the factor sucking the life out of the night, what would you expect the host to do about it?
As a host, what do you feel is reasonable to try and strike a balance between 'giving people a go' and ensuring that people don't start slashing their wrists?
