From the Where2sing.com forum:

Slow song nights can be a bit of a bore, there are several options open to hosts, some may work while others will not at particular venues. 1. a multiple song slip wher the singer puts in 3 songs but the order is at the hosts discression. 2. On the front of your song books state faster pased songs are requested (but not enforced) after a certain time. 3. Throw in a round of Kamakaze with upbeat songs. 4. Hosts have a mic, use it and ask for some faster songs, most singers that are regular karaoke goers will ablige. 5. Your regulars are an assett here ask them for some help to liven up the night. 6. Throw in a couple of lively sing along group songs. Just a few suggestions.

As for song books, we still use 2 sets one in song and one in artist and our computer data base is a gods send. The main hate I have is people not respecting them, not a week goes by that we have to replace at least 2 books from spilt drinks or grafiti written on them (even to the point the song sheet is taken out of its protective plastc slip to be written over).
