I have a fellow host over here in the West who has chosen to give away songbooks, and opted to invest in a secondhand laptop with his Excel songbook on, it is at front of house with songslips and the punters look up their songs from that point, he maintains the cost and risk factor is worthwhile considering the time and maintenance costs associated with songbooks!
My current songbooks have probably cost me around $30 each to manufacture so in retail terms $50 each would be a fair valuation of replacement so how do you think my chances are of recouping my loss from the punter who spills the red wine on it (have you smelt that stuff the next day) or broken the spine or demonstrated his artistic disfunction by telling everyone BAZZA WUZ HERE! Buckleys!!!! So I count my losses and I don't think I'd be putting a laptop out there for BAZZA to practice on would you?
