Not Happy Jan.

Last night we had the punter from hell turn up. Normally I don't air dirty laundry in public but this guys behaviour was out of line and I won't tolerate antics like this at my gigs.

The show was advertised as starting at 8pm. This guy first tried heading up the stairs to the club about 7:15. I told him it was closed and wasn't due to open until 8. He didn't seem all that pleased about being told he couldn't go up early, which I find to be strange as he's never been to this gig before (unless he was there last week when I wasn't) and was not known to any of the club or KJ staff.

Unfortunately we could not open right on 8 due to major issues with the sound and lighting. However this guy managed to force his way into the nightclub area about 7:50PM. The first thing he does was pull out his own karaoke disk and head towards the DJ booth without even looking at the books provided to see if we had the song he wanted.

I told him that singers disks are not played at this venue (club rules) and he became very indignant about this. Once the sound problems were fixed we decided to just have a few practice songs before opening to the public. The lighting was still being repaired with a mate of mine up a ladder in the middle of the singing area tring to fix the problems.

This guy was becomming more and more agitated so I decided to get him up for a practice song after he finally decided to consult the books and pick one.

Now this is where all forms of common sense semmed to go out the window.

He decided to do his impersonation of Mick Jagger while singing, and charged towards everyone in the room only to turn away at the last minute. Not only did this make everyone within reach uncomfortable, but this fool decided to charge towards the guy up the ladder a number of times almost causing him to fall off!!!

My mate on the ladder decided to wait until this clown finished singing before returning to try and fix the lighting but the bad behaviour continued.

After mauling his song, over the microphone he decided to say what a 'sh*t' version of the song it was and that was why he only brings his own disks. Well guess what buddy, you don't bring them to this gig. It's in the gig listing that disks are NOT played and even if you've not read the listing, YOU HAVE TO ASK FIRST - YOU DON'T HAVE AN AUTOMATIC RIGHT TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.

It's just common sense and curtesy, both of which he was totally lacking.

When he decided to leave (causing everyone else in the room to let go a huge sigh of relief), he grabbed the microphone off one of the other people who was about to do a practice song and announced he was going to another venue 'where I'm allowed to play my own disks'.

Well guess what buddy? Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. You are welcome to come again but only if you show some respect to the club and gig rules. It's not your own personal playground and you have no right to get annoyed when you have to follow the same rules as everyone else.

*phew* I'm glad I got that off my chest :-)

I'm going to have a Bex and a good lie down now lol

Other than that the gig was a lot of fun with more work still needing to be done on the new sound and lighting rigs. Also the additional karaoke screens will be back up in the next week or so. These were removed, without permission, by the company who installed the new light/sound rigs and so far they've been refusing to put them back up! They've got one more week to do as they have been told or else the club will employ someone else who will follow directions. Either way we should have 3 karaoke monitors back in the original 'in the round' configuration soon.
