From the Where2sing.com forum:

Anthony: I know the guy you refer to (the Mick Jagger thing made the penny drop) though I will not name names even though I'm reasonably sure that he does not come on W2S. This karaoke singer is what I would describe as a militant karaoke-goer. He has very specific expectations about how a gig should be run and is a bit of an 'immovable object' in that regard. I know several hosts who have had run ins with him, primarily over sound volume.

Having said that, before hosting shows myself, I do confess to being somewhat militant in my expectations. I did find it rather odd that Taxi Club has the area roped off until the advertised start time, most of us are used to being able to settle into the karaoke area well before and have the opportunity to go through the book and choose a song before the show starts. This obviously also allows the host to have a rotation ready before the first song rather than rely on warm up songs to give patrons time to do that.

I guess at the end of the day, it's up to the host to decide how accessable he/she wants their show to be. It's all well and good to say that a host should want everybody and anybody to come to their shows but I know quite a few hosts who say that there are simply some types of singers that they could do without and it's usually the type of singers that disrupt or counter against the kind of atmosphere they are trying to create, the kind of atmosphere that fosters a 'good time vibe'. I myself are torn on this respect, primarily because at heart, I'm a 'please everybody' kind of guy (unless they try and break one of my 450 rules, then all gloves are off! - injoke to those who have been to City Hotel). I certainly don't begrudge any host who tries to filter their shows in order that the majority enjoy themselves, I just feel for the minority who are the ones being filtered...
