From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hi Tom...
Good luck with the home karaoke and thank you for taking an interest in my progress recording wise. I'll probably only record a few karaoke numbers at ksolo but the rest of my time will be spent recording my own material now that I have the space and time to do so in my new digs. Yay!
I rather like your IQ theory regarding noise levels btw! LOL One need only look at the hoons who drive continuously around the block with their car stereos cranked to dance club volume to surmise they are rather brainless. (I am yet to see these guys gain any points with anyone but other guys who think it's cool to drive around the block causing noise pollution. Where do they get the idea that it guarantees them a date sometime?) I have neighbours who have their own stereos on indoors quite loud a lot of the time and when these same people do not have the stereo on and no other background noise to compete with, they STILL yell just to converse. I find it most irritating. Either they are so dumb they don't realise they don't have to yell or they are so dumb they don't realise that they only yell to be heard because the rest of the time they deafen themselves with loud music and that the solution is (obviously!) to play it at reasonable volume.
Being a security conscious kind of guy, I like to have my wits about me and it worries me when I exit a club or karaoke to find my hearing has been dulled by the excessive volume cos I don't like the idea of someone being able to approach me from behind without my hearing them in advance as I normally would. It brings with it an unpleasant sense of vulnerability.
This does not mean that I enjoy a karaoke which only pumps out a volume easily achieved by a simple stereo as that has always proved terrible. I do think a pub / club should have a bigger sound but somewhere short of ear-splitting decibel levels, definitely. I don't mind having to raise my voice SLIGHTLY to be heard but having to yell and still NOT be heard clearly is just ridiculous.
