When my wife took the time to work with me on shows we had a every good understanding of what our individual duties where .
I would work the sound , prepare the discs ( having a triple Decker i always had 3 discs in and ready to go ) M.C , and watch ( read ) the crowd for tempo , loudness ( people have a great way of telling you ' whats ' going on by you reading there faces and body language ) and what the crowd is responding to , my wife's job was to take peoples names down and the song they wanted ( if they didn't write the information down themselves on the little tickets for what-ever the reason ) and she would ' look - up the number of the song herself and then write down all infro and then pass it on to me , and also she would handle what ever information the customer required & no matter what they needed to discuss and give them the advice they ( the patrons ) needed , she would also handle the rotation ( taking in suggestions from me as to what is getting and keeping the crowd happy ) , you see when you have well over 15000 clear title songs many patrons become bored with finding songs or they just want to get on with there parting and quite frankly they can't be bothered spending the time it takes to look through the books ( we had 12 books by ' artists name ' and 12 books by song name in alphabetical order ) , so we found this system to work very well for us , so maybe the host should work the sound and M.Cing and leave all the other complex things that go on through to the evening to the offsider .....Just a thought
