| From the Where2sing.com forum: I am going to make some comments about karaoke talent contests. I recently entered a contest and got as far as the semi-finals, that's O.K. as I am not the world's greatest singer, but I love karaoke and at least I get up and have a go. The contest that I entered was classed as 'open' by the organisers, so this allowed the professional singers to enter it, so really what chance does the average karaoke singer have in contests like these? Is there a venue (in Sydney) that is game enough to put on a contest STRICTLY FOR AMATEURS - LEAVE OUT THE CONTEST CHASERS, THE PROFESSIONALS AND THOSE WHO HAVE WON OR PLACED IN COMPETITIONS OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS. Give the 'average singer' a go and I can just about guarantee that a new wealth of talent would be discovered.
At the competition that I entered, there was one lady who sang country (her name is Jessica) and she was fantastic. I had never heard her sing before, but my husband (who is a karaoke host) discovered her at one of his gigs and suggested to her that she enter this competition. The Grand Final was last night (26 Nov) and Jessica placed third and won $500.00 for it. Good one Jessica. She is an example of what the contests should be about.
I welcome feedback from any other people who feel the same way that I do about this.
