From the Where2sing.com forum:

Sometimes, you just have to crank the sound up at karaoke, for instance, the only way to play AC/DC ... is LOUD. It's about having FUN, it's about getting people going, but I back the sound off, as the song progresses. At last Saturdays gig, a rarity, the pub owner gave me the signal to turn it down, a guy was doing 'Black Betty' so I had a bit of fun and the punters were getting right into it. Sadly, we drew a noise complaint to the cops that night, but all is well.

You have to take your karaoke where you can find it AND there are pubs and there are pubs, every karaoke night is different, even at the same venue from week to week, that is one of the many things I love about karaoke. Take last week at Beechwood, a lady sang late in the evening, WOW, what a voice and as good a rendition of 'Hey Big Spender' the Shirley Bassey hit as you will hear anywhere, turns out she's an opera singer and was visiting her sister, you never know who is going to blow in and who can sing, but I enjoy almost all singers, good, bad or otherwise. Like all of you, I love my karaoke. Last night, one of the barmaids sang for the first time after work, a nervous rendition of Bette Midlers 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and brought the house down, everybody loved it. Anyway, my point is, you can't tar all pubs with the one brush. Karaoke is Karaoke I guess and like Forrest Gump said, 'life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get' and isn't that true about karaoke. There's a cue for a Tim McGraw song.....I like it, I love it, I want some more of it .......

G'day Kev, many fond memories from my nights at Peakhurst and glad to read recently, that Shea is still dancing up a storm and folks, if you've been to Peaky, ya can't possibly knock pub karaoke.

I really appreciated all the comments about songbooks and singer enquiries.

Well, may you all continue to have fun at karaoke and may 2008, be the best year you have ever had at karaoke.
