From the Where2sing.com forum:

R&V - I run a similar rig as you on Sat and Sun nights at the same venue, Sat levels due to the bigger crowd are certainly set higher and it is interesting when first firing up Sun afternoon with an almost empty room and without adjusting the mixer just how much firepower was used the night before, even the 12 inch foldback is overpowering, in fact its is completley unbearable on stage in an empty environment so it is a good guideline and comparison about adequate mix and measuring levels to suit the venue situation.
On the Sunday without changing the artillery an acceptable good sound mix and output level can de attained without increased decibels... resulting in great quality frequency response from all speakers and happy singers.
It doesn't nescessarily mean the bigger firing power the bigger the bang has to be, as I believe Tom quite rightly asserts and I am again convinced Malley Boy, Tom's hibernation to his local is due to the fact that there are some operators out there that do not like to turn it down and also have this misconception that every bit of their RMS rating has to be used to keep their punters happy and in most cases they do!
However as a Host I must consider my punters comfort and the venues needs, so I have to be open and prepared at all times to accept criticism and change.
