Rockgod...
I hope you're just 'agreeing' with what I said about it just being something the conspiracy theorists of the world would spend their time thinking about. ;)
With regards to accents, I still find it annoying usually if the person is not American but sometimes, the pronunciation just seems to suit the song better and on other occasions, the rhymes just don't come out right without an American pronunciation. Ironically, I can't think of any examples right now.
I've since discovered that accents are actually taught to budding singers deliberately to match the style of a song - especially for Country Music. I do not subscribe to this notion and would prefer to hear people's natural sounding voices. My guess is the pronunciation can determine whether or not the song is accepted by the US market, so it makes sense to adopt that pronunciation, if not the whole accent. I'm guilty of the pronunciation as both a singer and songwriter but sometimes, I like to sing songs with the natural accent too. Just depends on the sound of the song usually.
I'm not a Shannon Noll fan but I did like that he kept his natural pronunciation of the lyrics, 'can't you see,' in the song, What About Me.
