Cottonginn, if I can comment here. I can see both the current hosts and the host trying to 'pinch' the gigs point of view. Im sure it doesnt feel good to spend months building up good will with your customers only to find its all for nothing due not to your own incompetence, but an ignorant venue manager. And its the venue manager's point of view that most of us have trouble comprehending.

If a hosts succeeds in getting your gig off you, its not nessessarily because you were doing a bad job, but because the new host made promises that more often than not they cannnot fulfill. But its still not really their fault you lost the gig because they dont make that final decision. The venue manager does. It boggles my mind sometimes when managers make some of the decisions they do, and in my humble opinion most of them are just glorified bar attendants anyway who couldnt organise a good booze up in a brewery.

Rob Deal made an interesting point..........' Do you hear sporting teams whine about the other teams showing up trying to take their trophy!?' No you dont before the game, but they certainly have a good whine after the game if they lose! And the difference here is that if a sporting team is trying to take your tophy you have plenty of advance notice, time to train hard and play to the best of your ability in order to win the game. Other hosts trying to get your gig do it through the back door, sneak up behind and king hit you without any prior warning whatsoever. Thats why it comes as such a shock to the existing host when it happens.

There again, it is the venue managers' apathy that causes the drama. Surely if a host is doing a reasonably good job, rather than just dismissing them they should tell that host they've been offered a better deal and give them the opportunity to get rid of their complacency and perform to their full potential, to maintain familiarity and consistency to the patrons of the venue. Lets face it, most of us are creatures of habit and dont like change.
