| From the Where2sing.com forum: China, LeatherBaron and 'Wor' Fossie, I have mixed thoughts regarding 'Talent Comps' however what instills these thoughts is the reaction of the regular punter everytime the subject or idea is put into plan. Invariably I have to put up with the usual 'broken record' regarding professionals,comp chasers and the unfairness of every Karaoke Talent Quest they have entered!
I agree with LB as to the perception of these comps, however as we know Karaoke is about fun without boundaries and Talent Quests are about TALENT when we mix the two ( and this does happen) you have a unique variety of entertainment created by 'the serious' and 'not so serious' contestant!
Recently in Davids Newsletter he refers to 'practice' and improvement (or lack of) within the Karaoke fraternity as this is true in both cases shouldn't a Talent Quest be the best forum for that singer/s to recognise their level of singing and performing skills? Is it not true you are only as 'good as the golfers you play with'!
So I truly believe intelligently run Karaoke Talent Comps are good for all of us, they provide an enthusiastic forum for all to enter and perform, they do not discriminate nor do they unfairly embarass or criticise contestants so why do these Comps continue to be judged and criticised and in some cases blatantly defamed!
Is it because some of us still can't seperate the 'Fun Factor' from the 'Serious', I put this question to those that judge these events regarding so called 'Professional Entrants' ..... if you were given the opportunity to share the stage with say 'Jimmy Barnes' would you accept it and give it your best or would you refuse the offer in the fear that you would be upstaged or embarrassed?
It all gets back to a case of 'Self Worth' and I truly believe Karaoke offers us all that opportunity to improve ourselves!
