From the Where2sing.com forum:

LeatherBaron - Exactly thats why I refer in my post to 'Intelligently Run' Comps! And of course we have all learnt from experience, regardless of how carefully we plan and execute the format we cannot please everyone (fact of karaoke life) however too many rules can create a lobby of scrutinisers within the contestants and audience so I believe Judging Criteria should be brief and simple on entry forms and Judges jurisdiction should be based on individual selection based on how they were entertained personally (using criteria as a guide).

If the Judges decision is final then we must put great thought and faith into the selection of our choice in Judges and if we are to apply rules that restrict certain talent we open the floodgates of scrutiny within contestants and their supporters as they will without a doubt find some 'skeleton' in someones closet lol!

I lean more towards an Open Talent Comp, with the only restriction of last winners non elegibility, simple Judging Criteria allowing the Judges freedom and some sort of venue loyalty expectation to qualify for Semi's such as must attend and perform at 4 gigs during the Comp period, I personally believe every heat winner should be recognised and rewarded in some way Certificate,Trophy or some prize and as you have rightly pointed out ludicrous $$$$ Grand Prizes do nothing when the winner takes all and disappears,I wonder how the reaction would be if the Grand Prize was a 10 week paid gig at the venue instead 'very interesting' any comments from anyone on that idea ay?
