From the Where2sing.com forum:

I dont think that the way the Idol thing goes is a way of making it level as well. I think it is a poor idea! Tell me one entertainer that tries to show so many genres to prove they are good. RnB singers remain as RnBers, swing stay with swing etc tho some are able ot cross over. I am not for once going to say that someone is not good entertainer because they are only restricted to one genre. If you get sick of people coming in with one hit wonders, make the finals one where the singer has to sing 5 songs, not 1 or 2! 5 songs which are all power ballads will get boring from the same singer, so the judges and audience will realise that. Of course then you have to limit the number of finalists which makes the venue think there will be less people at the venue spending money. I disagree! If you have the cream of the crop singing a number of songs, (say the best 5 singing 5) then people will come to see it!
